You must deliver a Friday Khutbah.

Special Term for Khutbah competition participants

  1. Khutbah competitors should prepare themselves in advance and present their khutbah facing and attending the audience during the competition, they will not be allowed to use any mobile phone, Laptop or any other electronic device.
  2. In order to maintain the natural standards and for a quick reference, participants doing this competition may have some key points in a bullet format on a small piece of paper in their hand during their performance, Judges or Examiners will check this piece of paper before each competitor starts his  performance, these points can be as follows
  • Maximum of 7 bullet points
  • Each bullet line can have maximum of 5 words
  • Bullet points can only contains English words
  • This script is purely to improve the structure of your speech delivery. Please use it appropriately.

Marking Criteria

  1. Starting: Maximum 12 marks
  • Dress code (2)
  • Greeting (2)
  • Minbar confidence (2)
  • Good starting with hamd wa salawat (2), wasiyyah (2), and qiraah (2) appropriate to the topic of the Khutbah
  1. Introduction: Maximum marks (18)
  • Starting the topic with a good introduction to the topic. For example:
  1. What five times prayer is (2)
  2. When it was made obligatory (2)
  3. Who initiated it (2)
  4. why it was initiated (2)
  • Supportive evidence: quotations from the Quran, hadith…etc. (10)
  1. The main body of the khutba: Importance of five times prayer in life of a Muslim specially with congregation in a masjid (Maximum 40 marks)
  • Full explanation why the salah is important to a Muslim
  1. Its impact on individual Muslim (5)
  2. Its impact on the Muslim community (5)
  3. What is the reward (5)
  4. What is the consequence of neglecting it (5)
  5. Reasons to combine the salah (5)
  6. Reasons to Shorten the salah (5)
  • Supportive evidence: quotations from the Quran, hadith…etc. (10)
  1. Order and clarity of explanation (Maximum marks 5)
  2. Body language and eye contact (Maximum marks 5)
  3. Conclusion (Maximum marks 8)
  4. Its importance in one’s life in modern times
  5. It is a life time obligatory and should not abandon it under any circumstances in light of previously mentioned six points

 

  1. Second khutba with hamd wa salawat (2), wasiyyah (2), salawat upon the Prophet (pbuh) (2), and dua (2).
  2. Finishing (Maximum marks 4)

 

PLEASE NOTE that Sometimes some khateebs may choose to do the conclusion after the second khutba followed by salawat upon the Prophet (pbuh) and a dua and that is also acceptable.

  • Full explanation why the Jumuah salah is important
  1. Its impact on individual Muslim (5)
  2. Its impact on the Muslim community (5)
  3. What is the reward (5)
  4. What is the consequence of missing it (5)
  5. who is exempted from praying jumuah salah (5)
  6. what are the legitimate reasons for missing it (5)
  • Supportive evidence: quotations from the Quran, hadith…etc. (10)
  1. Order and clarity of explanation (Maximum marks 5)
  2. Body language and eye contact (Maximum marks 5)
  3. Conclusion (Maximum marks 8)
  4. Its importance in one’s life in modern times
  5. Should not abandon it under any circumstances considering the consequence of leaving it three consecutive weeks
